The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department covers 840 square miles along the St. Johns River near the east coast of Florida. Several railroads and two major Interstate highways pass through the city, and the nearby port is home to numerous cruise ships. It's a big area, and the department operates out of 55 stations to protect a population that is rapidly approaching the 1 million mark.


New Concord Fire Department, Ohio

The New Concord Fire Department in southeastern Ohio protects everything from a bustling college campus to a busy Interstate highway. It operates out of one station with 45 volunteer firefighter/EMT personnel and covers an area of 72 square miles that includes residential, commercial, and open rural land. Last year, the department responded to about 250 fire calls and more than 700 emergency medical service calls.


Orrville Fire Department, Ohio

The Orrville Fire Department protects the city of Orrville and portions of the surrounding rural area in northeast Ohio. It operates out of two stations with two frontline engines, one reserve engine, an aerial, a rescue pumper, two ALS squads, a grass truck, and a tanker. All of the personnel are volunteers except for the chief.
